TODDLER AND PRIMARY PROGRAMS AT MSR
(ages 15 months to 3 years)
Some refer to this developmental period as "The Terrible Twos." We disagree; toddlers are terrific. We love everything about them -- their energy, determination, and curiosity -- and purposefully created a very special place just for them. The MSR Toddler curriculum is constructed to meet the Toddler's growing emotional and cognitive abilities during this formative period for the development of personality, trust, independence, focus, and problem-solving.
A prepared environment. Our bright and sunny toddler classrooms are specially designed for your child between the ages of 15 and 36 months. It is a world scaled down to your child's size and filled with Montessori materials designed for them. Montessori materials emphasize exploration and experimentation and help to develop the child's ability to concentrate and focus, refine sensory perceptions, aid in gross and fine motor abilities, and language skills.
A joyful experience. Maria Montessori once said, "One test of the correctness of the educational procedure is the happiness of the child." Take a peek into our Toddler classroom and you will see children who are happy, engaged, and deeply connected to their friends and teachers. As a result, your child develops a deep affinity for school and a true love-for-learning.
Exploration. To be a toddler is to be curious. There are so many things to see, touch, hear, feel, and do in the classroom! Beautiful materials that stimulate her senses are rotated frequently on low shelves to pique your child's curiosity. She is encouraged to move freely around the classroom, to choose activities, and explore her own interests.
Help me do it myself. Toddlers are taught practical life skills such as how to pour their own juice, serve themselves a snack, put on their coat, blow their nose, and clean-up a spill (not to mention toilet-training)!
An environment conducive to learning. Where so many early childhood programs are chaotic and overwhelming, parents are often surprised to see the peaceful tone of our toddler classroom. The calm atmosphere and lack of distraction helps toddlers to develop impulse control and concentration, planting the seeds for learning in this classroom and beyond.
Deeply connected teachers. Teachers provide warmth, patience, and the encouragement necessary for each child to reach their personal best.
Toddler Program hours are 8:00am to 11:30am or all day from 8:00am to 2:30pm five days per week. Toddlers who are 15 months by August 31 are eligible.
(ages 3 years to 6 years)
Our Montessori Primary Program differs from traditional early-childhood education in that each classroom is a carefully prepared environment designed specifically to engage the student's natural curiosity and love of learning. Our primary program, designed for children between the ages of 3 to 6 years, approaches each child individually within the context of community which results in self-confidence, joy, and a life-long love of learning.
PRIMARY 3 AND 4
Beautiful hands on materials offer experiences. Manipulative, concrete materials in the classroom enable each child to work at tasks that are naturally engaging, developmentally appropriate, and provide opportunities for a child to develop concentration, coordination, independence, order, and the five senses as well as enriched language and math skills.
Uninterrupted work cycles. Children have a long, uninterrupted work cycle to develop concentration and mastery of work.
The gift of choice. Under the teacher's guidance, each child is able to select his or her own work according to personal interests and curiosity.
Grace and Courtesy. In addition to the formal curriculum, children are taught the skills necessary to get along well with others and be a part of a group. Children are empowered to solve difficulties through lessons on reflective listening, empathy, and personal responsibility as well as engaging in meaningful service learning projects throughout the school year.
Peace Education. Children learn their world and their place in it. Children in primary begin learning world geography.
There are two different program options for Montessori Primary 3 and 4 students: mornings only from 8:00am to 11:30am or all day pre-kindergarten from 8:00am to 2:30pm five days per week. Students must be 3 by September 30 to join the Primary 3 and 4 Program for the current school year.
PRIMARY 5: KINDERGARTEN
(ages 5 to 6 years)
The Montessori Primary curriculum is designed for children to take the skills they acquired from zero to three and refine them to be successful school age children. Your child will stay in the Primary classroom for 3 years (ages 3 to 6), including the traditional "kindergarten year" -- when the seeds of learning come to fruition. That third year in the classroom is when everything clicks or comes together. Our Kindergarteners have become critical thinkers and problem solvers. They are role models in their community. The opportunity to be a leader in the very place you were once a conscientious observer, is priceless. The Kindergartener now becomes a teacher to their younger peers. As they give presentations and help others, they are building independence and autonomy that is often missed in other educational settings. They complete their year as well-rounded learners ready to take on the most challenging of tasks.
Our Montessori certified teachers are taught to each child where they are and develop each one to their "full potential." The Kindergarten year is when this all comes together. They are confident and able, resilient and ready, and well prepared for first grade and beyond.
Kindergarten students attend school from 8:00am to 2:30pm five days per week. Students must be 5 by September 30 of the current school year to be in the Kindergarten program.
