Dear Montessori School of Ruston Families,

I am humbled, deeply grateful, and excited to introduce myself as the new director of the Montessori School of Ruston.  I have been blessed to be a part of our beautiful community as a parent and consider it an honor to now serve as your director.  My passion and appreciation for quality Montessori education has been shaped over my lifetime through a combination of experiences as a Montessori student, a Montessori parent, and professionally as a physician.

I was born and raised in Shreveport, LA and attended Montessori school, from age two through six.  I still remember fondly my days at the Montessori school and attribute my continued love for learning, creativity, and curiosity to my Montessori beginning.  My husband, Matt, and I moved back to the area about four years ago to raise our family on his family’s land in Farmerville, LA.  We have six children: Abigail (14), David (11), Joseph (9), Moses (6), Rebekah (4), and Elijah (2) who are all currently enrolled at MSR.  Prior to attending MSR, our children were enrolled at Montessori School of Shreveport for five years and Kinderhaus Montessori in Metairie, LA for one year.  Through my years as a Montessori parent, I have learned to trust the process of Montessori education through the different planes of development and have experienced the beautiful effects of Montessori education.

My professional education began with a B.S. and M.S. in Nutrition, followed by a medical degree from LSUHSC in Shreveport, LA, and concluded with post-graduate medical training in a combined program of Pediatrics and Child Psychiatry through Tulane in New Orleans, LA.  My choice in post-graduate training was largely shaped by my experience as a mother, which is where my interest in child development, specifically holistic models that provide support for the family system within the context of the wider cultural environment, developed.  My training and work as a physician deepened my respect for the value of Dr. Montessori’s philosophies and strengthened my commitment to supporting a Montessori model of education.

My goal as director is to maintain an environment where our children can develop to their fullest potential body, mind, and soul.  Dr. Maria Montessori understood that education could not just be about the gathering and memorization of facts but must serve to unlock the potential that lies within each one of us, encouraging alternative views and continuously challenging students to consider, explore, and think deeply about themselves and the world around them.  Once again, I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve our community, and I look forward to getting to know you and your children in the months and years to come!
