Dear Parents,

Thank you for sharing your students with us! They are an AMAZING group of people and we are sharing so many wonderful experiences with them. One thing we have hoped to improve is how we share what happens here with all of you. We know you want to see your beautiful children and all the lovely things they are doing here. We used an app called Bloomz last year and it worked really well for many of our classrooms; however the price to use this app has increased extensively and we would like to consider what other options are possible.

One of our wonderful MSR mothers has volunteered to create some surveys for parents to fill out. We want to hear your feedback so please take the time to complete these as they come to you. Your response to these surveys helps guide our decisions going forward and help us prioritize needs to be addressed at the school. I also want to remind all of our parents to remember your child's teacher is your first communication for anything regarding your child's experience at MSR. Our staff is intentional and focused on the development of your child from the first to the very last minute of the school day and for this reason we ask that you reserve your questions and concerns to outside of our school hours. We have set up a teacher note drop box in the office where you can leave any last minute notes for child's teacher and Mrs. Randi will be sure to deliver them. You may also text or email your teacher; however, please do not expect a response until after the school day ends. 

We are all hopefully back into our school routines. Late happens and as a mother of seven children, I know all too well just how "messy" mornings can be. We understand. All that being said, I also want to remind myself as well as all of you how important it is for our children to arrive to school on time, well rested and prepared for the day. I found this article, written by a Montessori Primary guide to help me better understand how being late affects my child in the classroom and it caused me to be more aware of being on time. We will begin enforcing an attendance policy as recommended by AMS following Labor Day weekend. Accordingly, children will not be allowed to come to school after 9:15am unless they have a doctor's/therapist's note to excuse them. Also please remember that elementary and middle school students arriving after 8:05AM and primary and toddler students arriving after 8:30AM must be brought to the office prior to going to their classroom to be checked in.  I found this article, How to get out the door on time (even with kids), to be extremely helpful in thinking through how to make my own family's mornings more successful. 

We hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend and please remember we have no school on Monday September 2, 2019. We look forward to seeing everyone bright and early on Tuesday September 3rd!!

Great Phase In Day #1!

We had a wonderful first phase in day with some of our 2019-2020 MSR students. We can't wait to meet the rest of our new and returning students in the morning! If you haven't had a chance to read up on some of our new staff in my emails this summer please read about them here. Please remember tomorrow Friday August 16th is a half day! Students will need to be picked up at 11:30am. 

New staff include Mrs. Randi Boone as school secretary, Mrs. Angie Biscomb as Business Office Coordinator, Mrs. Amy Crittendon as music specialist, and Mrs. Hannah Buxton as Middle School Language Instructor. Returning staff moving to new positions include Mrs. Amanda Serio as Outdoor Education Specialist, Mrs. Amanda Walker as Instructional Coordinator, Mrs. Naomi Chaput as After Care Coordinator, and Mrs. Rachael Lary as Lower Elementary Guide and Mrs. Monique Gourd as Lower Elementary Guide.

I also want to recognize all of our staff who started or completed Montessori certification this summer. Montessori training at any level is a great work and requires much time and commitment. Please congratulate Mrs. Erin Morrow (Infant/Toddler) and Mrs. Morgan Fuller (Primary 3-6 year old) for completing their Montessori Certifications. Mrs. Amanda Walker (administrator), Mrs. Rachael Lary (Elementary I), Mrs. Monique Gourd (Elementary I/II), Ms. Kelcie Valentine (Infant/Toddler) and Mrs. Savannah Blake (Primary 3-6 year old) have all started their training and will be completing their training requirements throughout this school year and summer 2020. MSR is proud of and thankful for all of these faculty members and their dedication to Montessori education!


Please review MSR’s 2019-2020 Academic Calendar at a glance and keep for your scheduling purposes. A more detailed calendar is also available digitally on the school’s website at (It's accessed via the link on the top left corner of the homepage). Important upcoming dates include Back to School Potluck this Friday August 16th at 6pm at Lincoln Parish Park, Pavillion L4, MSR's first full day of school on Monday August 19th, Toddler Parent Meeting Saturday August 24th from 10am to 11am, Primary Parent Meeting Monday August 25th from 6pm to 7:30pm and Elementary/Middle School parent meeting Thursday August 29th from 6pm to 7:30pm. 


MSR offers extended care programs to all students. We will be staffing these programs according to the number of children enrolled. We offer drop-in care ONLY when we can accommodate appropriately with staff.  Please review the included information regarding extended care and complete the online form to enroll your child if you plan to utilize this program. Our school lunch program will begin following Labor Day in September.   


Elementary and Middle School: Morning and afternoon car line are available. Morning car line is 7:50am to 8:05am. Afternoon car line is 3:00pm to 3:10pm.

Primary and Toddler: Please park and walk your child into school in the morning. Please park and walk into school to pick up your child in the afternoon. 

Morning drop off is 8:15am to 8:30am. Afternoon pickup is 2:15pm to 2:30pm. 

Half Day: Toddler pick up is 11:20 to 11:30am. Primary pick up is 11:30 to 11:40am.



I am extremely grateful for the outpouring of help from our parents over the last two weeks. We had an extremely large number of volunteers on both parent work days help with getting the school spruced up. We also had parents continue to come to the school and volunteer time late into the night helping us finish up the last remaining projects to get the school completely ready for the students!

Also, I again want to thank each of you for choosing Montessori and specifically Montessori School of Ruston. Montessori education is beautiful, purposeful and as one staff member says, “the education children deserve.”  Thank you for prioritizing your child and their development – and for allowing our staff at MSR to serve you and your child this year. I look forward to seeing everyone soon and remain hopeful for the year ahead!

June 2019: WELCOME TO 2019-2020 ACADEMIC YEAR

We want to welcome our new and returning students and families to Montessori School of Ruston for the 2019-2020 school year. I hope you will find Montessori School of Ruston to be a community of families who share a common vision of children as stewards of hope for the future. Our staff is ready to engage your child in learning experiences that will inspire joy, wonder, and a sense of purpose in each of them. 

As we enter our 34th year of Montessori education in Ruston, Louisiana, we give thanks for the many ways our school is growing and improving. MSR’s scope of programs for students in kindergarten thru eighth grade is expanding to include formal instruction in music, outdoor education, and coding in addition to P.E., Spanish and art. Five MSR staff members are beginning their Montessori certification this summer and two more are completing their certification and returning to share their knowledge and passion for the child with our school. Our entire faculty continues to deepen their knowledge through professional development opportunities and collaboration with one another. And of course, we are all learning from our students every day.

Our school is happy to welcome some new staff members and some returning staff members to new positions. Dr. Amanda Walker will be using her Doctorate of Curriculum and Instruction and passion for Montessori education to serve our school in her new role as Instructional Coordinator. Mrs. Amanda Serio will be nurturing your child's sense of wonder in the Outdoor Classroom as our Outdoor Education Specialist. Mrs. Hannah Buxton is joining Mrs. Katie Guinn and will be using her degrees in Secondary Literature and Library Science to engage our Middle School students conversations about literature, the power of words, and writing. Finally I am certain many of you have already noticed Mrs. Angie Biscomb being in the office more than usual. Mrs. Angie, our 2018-2019 MAPS chair, previous board member, and supportive parent, has stepped on board as our business office coordinator. Please be patient with us as we use the summer to get everyone established in their new roles. I, along with the rest of our staff, are confident in the abilities, skill sets and dedication these wonderful ladies will bring to our school.   

We will be contacting you regarding your child's enrollment information to ensure we have all the information needed in place and correct. Class rosters are being finalized and your child's teacher will be contacting you no later than June 30th to notify you of supplies, important dates, classroom procedures, and if requested a time to meet and see the classroom. Please use the calendar to keep updated on events and dates. We make every effort to keep the calendar updated on our website. If you see we've missed something please call! 

I cannot stress the gratitude we have for our students…your child…each amazingly unique and gifted in their own way. They are the reason we are here and it is a cornerstone of the MSR experience for our school to function as a community where staff, board members and parents work together as partners to serve the child. We look forward to building relationships with each of you this year and are excited about the work we will do together! Thank you for being a part of our beautiful school and allowing us to serve you.

2018-19 School Year!

Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to a wonderful 2018-19 school year!  This letter includes important information regarding registration. We ask that you read through it thoroughly and contact us with any questions.  Please complete all registration forms and return to the school by Monday June 25, 2018.

Forms may be completed and returned the school in person, by postal mail or email.

  • Tuition is payable in 10 monthly installments (July through April).  Please find and complete the ACH form to set up ten automatic, monthly payments from your checking account.  Payments will be deducted on the 1st of each month – July through April.
  • Tuition is payable in full by July 1, 2018.  Families paying the annual tuition in full by this date will receive a 5% discount.
  • Please see the Tuition and Fee Schedule sheet for details regarding prepayments and sibling discounts.
  • A supply fee of $275 is due by September 1, 2018 and can be paid at any time between now and then.  Many parents opt to send a post dated check with their registration forms to cover this fee.
  • Extended care is available every morning from 7:30am and every afternoon until 5:30 pm.  Please see the Extended Care options and fees form for payment options and fee details.

Our school’s parent teacher group, MAPS (Montessori Active Parents and Staff) charges a family fee of $25 due by July 1, 2018.  This fee covers membership and provides every student with a water bottle for use at school as well as a family subscription to Tomorrow’s Child Magazine.  Each issue is filled with articles that address the questions parents most often ask about Montessori schools and Montessori in the home.

NEW STUDENTS must have a health appraisal form completed.  We are required to have updated immunizations records for all students prior to August 15, 2018.

CHILD INFORMATION FORM, PAYMENT CONDITION FORM, RELEASE OF LIABILITY FORM, AND HELATH FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN.  In case of an emergency or urgent notice, it is important that we can quickly reach you.  Please keep your child’s information sheet updated throughout the year with any phone, address, email changes, or persons authorized to pick up your child.  We will not release your child to anyone other than those listed on your child’s info form (unless special arrangements have been made through the school office).

Help us out by marking your calendar for Parent-Teacher Work Days that are set for Saturday, August 4 and Saturday, August 11.  Our work day on August 4 will occur in conjunction with our Back to School Rummage Sale to be held at the country club, and parents may work at the school or assist with the Rummage Sale.  We will begin around 8am.  Parents who are unable to attend either workday are charged a $75 contribution fee which helps cover the cost of supplies needed repairs and maintenance.  Our community looks forward to these days together preparing our school for the upcoming year.  It is a great time to reconnect and meet new friends.  Please leave "little helpers" at home for this event.

An updated digital copy of Montessori School Parent Handbook will be emailed to all parents.  Please read the handbook carefully.

We often post pictures of our students on our website, Facebook page, Instagram and on promotional materials.  Please complete and return the form giving us permission to use photographs of your child for these purposes.
